North Korea has many times threatened to turn Seoul into a "sea of fire" and in 2002, they killed South Korea's sailors in the West Sea. Who will help us fight against them if the US soldiers are gone? You?

It is debatabe as to whether N Korea could actually pull off an attack against the South. Please see some former US millitary personnel's assesment -

Also, if Washington were really intrersted in peace on the peninsula, wouldn't they be more active in diplomacy? Many former diplomats have accused the Bush administration of provoking Pyongyang.
And, if the North is such a threat, why is the US reducing troop numbers.
And, if troops are being reduced, why are they not just closing some bases slowly, rather than reshuffling all over the peninsula and expanding this base?
The land the US is returning is very contaminated. And for this new base, they are taking farmland. This does not make good sense.
The people affected never had a say in the drafting of the plan. I am sure that if the governments in Washington and in Seoul had been more transparent from day one, had engaged in honest dialogue with the people of their respective nations, and had LISTENED, a compromise plan could have been worked out.
