What
is the International Peace March for Pyeongtaek? The planned
expansion of the Camp Humphreys in Pyeongtaek will transform the U.S. military
in Korea into a dangerous war-machine, placing the lives of people in Korea,
Asia and the world at a great risk. In
May, the South Korean government sent in over 15,000
military and riot police to the Pyeongtaek village to brutally attack the
farmers for standing up against the Korean
government and the U.S. military for their right to live on their land. We are calling all social justice leaders and activists
from around the world to participate in this historic march (4th
Pyeongtaek Peace March) to immediately stop the forced eviction of the
Pyeongtaek farmers, and to bring a worldwide attention to the U.S. military¡¯s
plot to dominate Asia and the world.
How
does this work? Our goal is to
gather 100,000 people around the world to stand in solidarity with the
Pyeongteak farmers to defend the land that they have been cultivating for
generations. You can participate by registering to become a Pyeongtaek JIKIMEE ¡°defender of peace¡±. We ask that a donation of $10 or more be
submitted with the attached application (all donations are tax deductible and
will go towards supporting the Pyeongtaek struggle). A delegation from the U.S. will participate
in the upcoming Sept. 23rd Global Days of Action Anti-War Rally & the Sept.
24th International Peace March for Pyeongatek in Seoul. You can also register your local solidarity
action with the U.S. Pyeongtaek Committee and we will forward your action announcement and message of solidarity
to Pyeongtaek. It is crucial that your message of solidarity is sent to Korea by September 1. This will help with the Pyeongtaek farmers¡¯
media and public outreach in Korea.
What
will you do in Seoul? You
will participate in a colorful mass rally that characterizes Korea¡¯s unique
resistance culture. There will be speakers, performances, creative rally
activities, human chain march and a candlelight vigil. You will also get to meet with the fearless
Pyeongtaek farmers to hear first-hand stories of the Korean people¡¯s struggle
against the U.S. military base expansion.
Will
there be local actions in the U.S.?
Yes, there will be similar events such as a candlelight
vigil on September 23 in various cities. We will keep you posted!

the 1st Pyeongtaek Peace March, held on July 10, 2005 and has
continued to raise awareness regarding the dangers of the expansion of the U.S.
Military Base in Pyeongtaek by highlighting the effects of the plan on the
community as well as regional security.]
