Dear friends!
As part of the movement against neoliberal globalization, we wish you Every possible success in your struggle against the presence of US troops in Your country. In particular, we support your campaign against the extension of the military base of Pyeongtaek which would lead to another massive violation of the rights of the local communities.
The presence of foreign troops in another country almost never serves peaceful purposes. Their function is not to secure peace in their 밾ost country?
but to serve the strategic interests of their home country. This is true for soldiers of any nationality, may they be American, European or from any other country or region.
We know this and we know that the presence of foreign troops always raises the chance of open war. This is why we oppose both the so-called peace missions of our army in other countries and the presence of the US and other armies around the world.
Even George W. Bush acknowledged referring to Lebanon that
democracy is not possible in an occupied country. The same is true for freedom itself.

We declare our solidarity with your struggle against the US military
base of Pyeongtaek. As in South Korea we in Germany have many US military bases. All these bases are necessary to spread war in all parts of the world. If we want to have peace in the world the first step is to get rid of the foreign bases. We support every step in this struggle and wish you success.

STOP the Forced Eviction of Pyeongtaek Farmers in South Korea!
Re-negotiate the Planned Expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Pyeongtaek!
The South Korean government publicly announced that by the end of August it plans to forcibly remove ALL peace defenders who have reclaimed empty houses in Daechuri and Doduri villages of Pyeongtaek to support the villagers’ resistance against the U.S. military base expansion. There are approximately 200 villagers still refusing to surrender their land and homes. By removing all supporters, the government intends to use an isolation tactic to intimidate the Pyeongtaek villagers. Without supporters acting as eyewitnesses to the government’s brutality we can guarantee that the situation in Pyeongtaek will worsen. Already, we have seen what the government is capable of doing—with no remorse! In May, the government deployed over 15,000 military and riot police to the village of Pyeongtaek, resulting in serious injuries to more than 500 local farmers and activists, 524 arrests and a barbed wire fence all around the farmland.
I, the undersigned, demand the cessation of forced eviction of Pyeongtaek farmers in South Korea and the re-negotiation of the planned expansion of the U.S. Military Base in Pyeongtaek.
I support the activities of the Pan-S. Korea Solution Committee Against U.S. Base Expansion in Pyeongtaek, comprised of more than 140 member organizations including farmers, labor and other civil society organizations in South Korea.

Protest gegen den Ausbau von US-Militaerbasis in Suedkorea
Am Sonntagabend wird in Berlin eine Solidaritaetskundgebung fuer die Bauern im suedkoreanischen Pyeongtaek stattfinden, die sich gegen den Ausbau der US-Militaerbasis in ihrer Region wehren. Heike Haensel, entwicklungspolitische Sprecherin der Fraktion DIE LINKE., unterstuetzt den Protest.
Das Projekt zum Ausbau des US-Stuetzpunktes in Pyeongtaek folgt der neuen Militaerstrategie der "Strategischen Flexibilitaet", mit der die US-Armee ihre schnelle Einsatzfaehigkeit weltweit erhoehen will, und ist mit einer weiteren Aufruestung der US-Praesenz in Suedkorea verbunden. Heike Haensel sieht in dem Projekt deshalb einen weiteren Baustein zur Militarisierung in dieser Region. "Diese militaerische Aufruestung verschaerft den Konflikt mit Nordkorea und gefaerdet die Existenz zahlreicher Bauern in der betroffenen Region", so die Abgeordnete. "Die Bauern sollen der vergroersserten Militaerbasis Platz machen. Sie wehren sich seit Jahren gegen die Enteignung ihrer Felder und die Vertreibung aus ihren Doerfern. Das Militaer geht mit Haerte gegen sie vor. Sie brauchen internationale Solidaritaet fuer ihr berechtigtes Anliegen. Deshalb begruesse ich die Initiative von in Berlin lebenden Koreaner/innen, am Sonntagabend um 19 Uhr eine Protestkundgebung an der Gedaechtniskirche abzuhalten."

한국에서의 미군기지확장을 반대한다.
일요일저녁 베를린에서는 한국 평택농민들을 위한 연대집회가 개최된다. 이것은 평택지역에서 미군기지의 확장을 저지하기 위한 것이다. 좌파당의 제 3세계 개발정책 대변인, 하이케 헨젤의원은 이 저지투쟁을 지지한다.
평택 미군기지의 확장계획은 미국의 새로운 군사전략인 ‚전략적 유연성’ 에 따른 것이다. 미군은 이 전략으로 전세계 분쟁지역에 그들의 신속한 투입력을 높여갈 것이며 또한 이것은 한국에서의 미군주둔의 계속된 무장화와 직결되는 것이다. 그러하기에 하이케 헨젤의원은 평택미군기지확장이전 계획이 이 지역에서의 무장화의 단초가 된다고 보며 다음과 같이 주장하는 바이다. „ 군무장화는 북과의 갈등을 증폭시킬 것이며 그리고 평택지역의 수많은 농민들의 생존을 위협할 것이다. 농민들은 미군기지확장을 위해 그들의 삶의 터전을 내놓아야 만했다. 그래서 그들은 수년에 걸쳐 그들의 땅이 빼앗기는 것과 그들이 마을에서 쫓겨나와 내몰리는 것에 저항해서 싸워오고 있다. 군은 아주 강도높게 주민들과 맞서고 있다. 평택농민들은 그들의 정당한 권리행사를 위한 투쟁에 국제연대를 절실하게 필요로 하고 있다. 그러하기에 나, 하이케 헨젤은 베를린에 거주하는 한국인들이 자발적으로 발의한 일요일 저녁 7시 게데흐니스교회앞에서 개최될 평택에서의 강제철거 반대와 미군기지확장이전계획에 대한 전면적 재협상을 요구하는 집회를 진심으로 지지하는 바이다.
<독일 연대, 지지서명자들 소개 >
Yildiz Köremezli-Erkiner 와 Engin Erkiner : 일디쯔 퀘레메쯜리 - 에르키너 (Yildiz Koeremezli-Erkiner) 는 터어키 인으로서 좌파당 및 선거대안당( Die Linke. Wasg) 소속 프랑크 푸르트 시의원이며, 교유과 이민자통합위원회에서 활동하고 있다.
그의 남편 엥긴 에르키너(Engin Erkiner) 는 같은 당 소속으로서 프랑크푸르트 지역위의 부대표로서 활동하고 있다.
한스 페터 리히터 : 한스 페터 리히터씨는 세계평화의회의 회원이며 베를린 평화 연대체 “평화의 축” 의 대표로서 활동하고 있다.
“평화의 축” 은 미국 George W. Busch 대통령이 “ 악의 축” 과의 전쟁을 선포한 데 반하여 나온 긍정적 견제 개념이며, 이 연대체는 부시대통령이 2002년 5월 베를린을 방문할 당시 약 230여개의 단체가 즉흥적으로 발족하였다. 여기에는 평화단체, 비판적 세계화 운동세력, 환경운동단체, 노조, 그리고 교회 등이 다양하게 참여하였다. 현재 활동가들을 중심으로평화 운동을 전개해 가고 있다
라이너 바아케 : 라이너 바아케씨는 1998년부터 2005년까지 녹색당소속으로 적녹연정당시 환경부차관으로서 원자력 폐기정책부터 기후 정책, 교토프로토콜, 재생에너지 산업육성, 연방환경보호법의 개정, 쓰레기폐기 정책 등에 이르는 주요한 환경정책을 이끌어 왔다. 2006년 9월부터는 독일의 대표적 환경단체인 독일환경지원 (Deutschen Umwelthilfe e.V. =DUH ) 의 연방사무총장을 역임하고 있다.
하이케 헨젤(Heike Haensel) : 하이케 헨젤은 좌파당 소속 독일 연방의원이며, 연방 의회에서 외교상임위, 유럽연합관련상임위, 경제협력과 개발상임위에서 활동중이다.
